Artemis Fowl 5

As the book comes to the end and many last ditch efforts he loses the commander, Julius root, loses hope and decides to let the troll in to the mansion. and if all else fail in order to keep their civilization a secret he would relase a biological blue bomb killing every organsim in the mansion. Towards the end when holly is traded back for about half the orginal amount of gole in return she uses her magic to help artemis's mother to get over the depression she was in due to the death of his father. As the book comes to an end it seems as though the faires are suprised at what this "human" was capalble of.  throughout the entire book the underground fary world always think of themselves as better  than the humans. onse such quote to exeplify this would be when holly first walks on earth and sees a CD in the store. She says "A CD. How quaint. We have these in museums." and when Foaly makes first contant with artemis he says "No. This is not the commander. This is Foaly, the centaur. Is this the kidnapping lowlife human?" Overall the human race is referred to as mud peoople. Artemis Fowl 4

For once what I had predicted did not happe. I thought that since the entirety of LEPeracon or i guess their version of the FBI. They are like the police for the fairy world and they donot have restictions they make their own rules. I thought that it was very similiar to the United States FBI because they are very secretive and if any police investigation gets out of hand they come in and investigate.

Fairies have special rules that everyone must abide byan and no one can break them no matter what circumstances they are in. One such rule is that they can not enter someones house unless they are invited by the owner of the house. As a result even thoug the entire LEP unit is standing out side the house they cannot go in to save Holly. Juluis Root the captian of the LEP says "Looks like the gang's all here. And guess what? I don't like gangs." because he does not want to draw attention to the fact that everyone is standing oust side the this kid house in the middle of the day. So he authorizes a time stop  which stops time around his mansion until they can figure things out. Artemis are makes a ransome deals with the captian saying he will trade her for 1 ton fo 24 karat gold.

Just as I had previously predicted artemis has kidnapped the fariy captian and is keeping her hostage in his mansion. he is anticipating everything the faires would do to try and get her back. Since she has no magic left in her and desperately needs to finish the ritual she brings an acorn back with her. this process reminds me of the various times when humans need to sleeep and regain their engergy before going out and doing something such ridiculous. linked to a sleeping baby that shows how precious it is.

And if some people don't get enoughsleep they drag their feet and slouch and fall asleep on the job and other such stuff.(http://www.webmd.com/sleep-disorders/sleep-apnea/sleep-apnea) I attached a link for sleep apnea to see some of the other side effects of not sleepig. Afterwards when they sleep they become refreshed with life. Similarly the faires are the same way Captian Holly Short who barely has energy to protect her self was kidnapped by Artemis when he found out that faries need a tree in order to complete the restoring ritual.

Artemis Fowl 2

From the secret book Artemis learns the specific ritual used by fairies to renew their powers. I predict that with this information he will probably try to find a fairy and try to learn all their culture or ways. The secret book reminds me of ancient text from the Egypt and such countries that developed writing for their own rituals and stories. Similarity the fairies used their writing for the same thing and was very difficult to decode for Artemis. An interesting quote i found in the book which depicts the pride and ego Artemis fowl had in his ability to find the what he wanted the most. "I never tell anyone exactly how smart I am, they would be too scared."- Artemis Fowl II  His ego and pride reminds me of an epic poem we had read as sophomores about a man who had too much hubris and ended up killing his mother and father. The story was known as Oedipus Rex.  He also had a complex named after himself known as the Oedipus complex which dictates that every child would like to kill their father and marry their mother. A complex is a way of thinking in phycscology terms.

Artemis Fowl

As I was walking in the library when I was young I found a very interesting book called Artemis Fowl. Today was one of the first day where I remember and now going to read this book.http://www.amazon.com/Artemis-Fowl-French-Eoin-Colfer/dp/2070546810/ref=sr_1_35?ie=UTF8&qid=1305855908&sr=8-35 Thought the book in the link leads to a french version I could not find an actual English version on amazon. This is a very popular book and the first of a five part series from a successful Irish author Eion Colfer. Into the first few chapters it is about a eccentric young man, about twelve years old, who believes in fairies.

The story opens up to Artemis who travels to Vietnam to investigate a suspected fairy sighting. It turns out that a fairy who has been kicked out from the fairy world lives on alcohol and acts as healer to the local village. Artemis gets interested when finds out that she can heal cancer and other life-threatening diseases for only a bottle of wine. Imagine that all diseases can be cured by a simple incantations from a fairy. This part of the story reminds me of silly games that can heal a person without any repercussions.

Stories like this can only be true i with imagination or in games and other such stuff. And yet Artemis is still able to manipulate her into giving her book of secrets that each fairy has.

Towards the end of the book eragon feels the need to become more involved with the situation that he is in. The varden is comprised of dwarfs, elves, and whatever are left of the humans. At this part of the book eragon feels the need to be apart of something bigger eventhough he doesn't realize it yet. He is torn between the two groups. Each of the groups have a postive and negative side yet he has no incentive to go to ethier side. The problem with him is towards the end of the book is that each side has it good parts and its bad parts which lead to eragon not being able to any resposibilities.  As a result he eragon loses his morals and has to rely on his friend to knock some sense into him. This reminds of the yin and yang symbol becasue there needs to be a balance inbetween the two apposing forces in order for eragon to find his peace. Sometimes people find themselves in a similiar situations when they are torn between two friends. Neither of the friends can be right or wrong but just the fact of taking one person sides over the other person makes you a bad person. We need that third person to help us out in such situations who is more experienced and does not favor ethier side. In the book eragon had mortag who was his friend who was able to help him to chose. In our lives that person can be a friend, teacher, or parent.

Being the last post I do plan on reading eldest which is the next part in the triolgoy.This book also won a New York Times best seller so the story must be just as good a Eragon. From my friends I have heard that a new dragon rider appears to help Eragon. The following is a link to an influencial blogger who works for google. He wrote a book review on eldest. As dwarfs show Eragon and Saphira their new home in the city of Tronjheim they are each introduced to orik. orik is their guide who basiclally shows them around the city all of the back passages and tunnels because Tronjheim is like and underground maze similar to a ant hill. When i try to imagine the city I see something similar to the picture on the top. Any ways as Orik leaves them to rest for the night a young lady with a child shows up. Eragon is confused and is wondering what she wants. After wards he realizes that she wants his blessings for her young child. Not knowing what to do Saphira tells him to say prayer and touch the babies head and then afterward saphira kisses the baby on the head leaving a small star shaped mark on the babies head. At that point in time he understands the amount of responsibility that comes withe the amount of power he possess when he says"Eragon had never blessed anyone. It was not something done lightly in Alagaësia, as a blessing could easily go awry and prove to be more curse than boon—especially if it was
spoken with ill intent or lack of conviction.Do I dare take that responsibility? he
wondered." Which is similar to what peter Parker was told when uncle Ben was killed in the  movie/storyline of spider man. The link leads to a biography page which explains where Stan Lee the original Writer of Spiderman got the quote from and what it really means.
